We have all heard the saying “work to live – don’t live to work”, but how many of us apply that philosophy to our lives? Think about the most successful businessmen you have ever known; one inescapable truth is that they must work long and hard to achieve it. Now, ask yourself how much time they put into that.
Out of all the people I spoke to regarding this subject, no one said they wished they worked more hours. They all wanted to succeed, and the definition of success that culture provides us is a high net worth. However, the trick is to ask yourself, what is success to you? Take the reins and define success for yourself. Consider where your job fits into this narrative. You likely see your job as a means to achieve your goals, not vice versa. This shift in perspective can empower you to take control of your own narrative of success.
As you work to try and achieve the success you have defined for yourself, you may begin to feel like you are behind everyone who seemingly figured this out before you. Stay in your lane, run your own race. Don’t work so hard for tomorrow, to make up for yesterday, that you forget about today. These are words to live by.
