Floridita – Havana

Mentioning that this was one of the favourite cocktail bars and places in Havana of Ernest Hemingway should be enough. There’s even a life-size bronze statue of the American writer placed where he used to sit.

There is a small plaque he signed, with a quote saying:”My mojito in the Bodeguita del Medio and my daiquiri in the Floridita”. If what you have just read still did not convince you this is one of the best spots in Havana, keep reading.

The fish restaurant and cocktail bar in La Havana Vieja (the old part of the city) became the property of Mr Costantino Vert in 1914, the inventor of Frozen Daiquiri. El Floridita quickly became a place where bartenders could learn and become the best cantineros (bartenders), specializing in mixing rum and fruit juice-based cocktails.

Hemingway proclaimed the bar’s Daiquiri the best in the world. On your next trip to Havana, let us know if he was right about it.
