“Never Let Them See You Smile”

For decades, many have been fooled into thinking that the James Bond saga is the tale of an MI6-agent, like all of us however Bond isn’t best defined by his day-job. Any long-time follower of Bond will know that the secret-agent persona is just a cover. If Bond is singularly anything, he is perhaps the last remaining member of the jet-set - that all too modernist group of well-heeled, mid-20th century international pleasure-seekers.

A Kitchen is like a Man’s Wardrobe

I am driven mad nowadays with the need for every possible kitchen scenario to be instantly and effectively treated with a gadget that can only do one specific thing. I got a targeted ad the other day for a handy-dandy countertop egg steamer. “Perfect every time!” it exclaimed at me in bold font. Well, I thought, those poor dears who bought theirs. Surely they don’t have running water and literally any sized pan.

Sweater Weather

The signs are everywhere. The mercury in the thermometer dips below 65° F (that’s 18° C for all our non-American gents), the leaves start to lose their chlorophyll and turn rich shades of orange and amber, the sun sets sooner and, of course, the pumpkin spice latte becomes a Starbucks best seller again.

What Makes an Icon, an Icon?

Making a post the other day with the pictures of a Land Rover Defender, one word kept popping into my mind: "Icon". But I couldn’t stop thinking, what makes an icon? To me, the word, the description, the designation “Icon” has lost a bit of its significance – it is being thrown around left and right, and almost immediately a given product seems to have achieved “iconic status”; and it’s a shame.
