Meet Mr. Florian Thöni (@florianthoeni) from St. Moritz, Manager at Grand Hotel Suvretta House.

Florian, what does it mean for you to be a Modern Gentleman?

Be curious, be foolish sometimes, don’t take everything too seriously and treat people well. Know where your roots are and be proud of it.

When it comes to style, where do you mostly get your inspiration from?

The biggest inspiration is traveling, seeing other cultures and taking knowledge from subtle codes.
Style and inspiration are in everything – in gesture, attitude and so much more. It can be the simple way you drink an espresso. And I love to watch old people, they are so well dressed, especially in Italy.

What’s your personal style signifier?

My personal style signifier is mixing high and low. Wearing a coat I love and it was worth the price and mixing it with good old Stan Smiths.

What are your favorite wardrobe essentials?

My Persols and a reddish Tudor Black Bay which is perfect for every day.

What are your main passions and how do you cultivate them?

Everything started when there was no internet at all. Digging music and finding proper magazines, going deeper and get knowledge about the things and start to see the connections in between them.
Nowadays, for me, it’s a lot about the cultural aspect of food & hospitality in general – the value of good ingredients, knowing the basics, traveling to find the origin of recipes and their meaning for the people who produce them. A few weeks ago I was in Piemonte, everything was so delicious!

Tell us what can never miss in your liquor cabinet.

An ice-cold Fernet Branca – it’s as simple as that.
