Meet Mr. Robbie Tanck (@robbietanck) from Amsterdam, Netherlands – Co-founder of the menswear brand Nassau Clothing.

Robbie, what does it mean for you to be a Modern Gentleman?

For me the term ‘Modern Gentleman’ has most to do with the way you are and behave. Being self-conscious, being aware of the people you’re with and the way you treat other people both personally and professionally. A modern gentleman is there for the long-run and keeps this in mind all the time. He also stands by his word and takes the extra step, especially when not needed.

When it comes to style, where do you mostly get your inspiration from?

Style-wise I do get really inspired by all kinds of designs in various fields. I am a real car enthusiast where I really love the older Mercedes models from the 60-80s. Next to that, I enjoy interior design and architecture which has a lot of similarities with my industry in terms of shapes, materials and colours. I also keep a close eye on my one and only favorite clothing brand in the world, Ralph Lauren. Their campaigns from the 90’s and early 00’s in particular.

What’s your personal style signifier?

My vintage watch, a Cartier Santos Galbee. I inherited it from my grandfather and its design definitely stood the test of time. It’s a watch I wear both formal and informal and always gives this elegant feel to my outfit.

What are your favorite wardrobe essentials?

Definitely a soft-tailored navy hopsack blazer, high rise grey trousers and dark brown suede loafers. I combine them with all sorts of items like jeans and knitwear and it always works. With Nassau we also focus on ‘intelligent essentials’ as we like to call them. A circular wardrobe that works for any occasion.

What are your main passions and how do you cultivate them?

Next to my menswear brand Nassau, I source and sell vintage marble tables together with my girlfriend. She shares my passion for interior design and together we go on trips through Europe to source and sell vintage furniture. It’s a hobby that grew into a business which is called Studio Rone.

Tell us what can never miss in your liquor cabinet.

A good bottle of whiskey. My father once gave me a bottle of Macallan Double Cask Gold which I really enjoyed. Every now and then I take a glass when the time feels right.
