Showing respect to the people around you

Meet Mr. Casper Lundmose (@afathersleisurehours) from a small town called Hjallerup in the north of Denmark; he works in the premium cars leasing sector and he’s one of the first Gents Cafe contributor.

Casper, what does it mean for you to be a Modern Gentleman?

When I think of a gentleman, the first word that comes to mind is respect; a gentleman shows respect to the people around him, he listens to them out of respect, he dresses for the occasion, and to show respect to the people at the occasion. I strive, at some point, to reach this level fully – but these are things I aspire to live by.

When it comes to style, where do you mostly get your inspiration from?

Most of my style inspiration comes from icons from the past like Agnelli, Steve Mcqueen, JFK, Ralph Lauren and the like; and combined with the many inspirational gents that I get to follow through Instagram – for instance Matt Hranek, Sid Mashburn or Alessandro Squarzi (depending on the mood).

What’s your personal style signifier?

A friend of mine once called me “the most composed person he had ever met”. I could be in a suit one day, and standing on top of the table in a tent singing in a t-shirt and dirty jeans the next day – and being 100% myself in both scenarios. And that probably hits the head on the nail. I am very high-low and love to mix things up. I primarily stick to classics though – Waxed Barbours, loafers, Levi’s jeans or chinos, OCBD, turtlenecks, sport jackets, classic suits – as I see it, there is a reason why they are as good now as they were when Mcqueen wore them. And that’s good enough for me.

Sum it up – citymouse/countrymouse? Spezzato? Oh, and no socks… Almost always!

What are your main passions and how do you cultivate them?

There are way too many – just ask my wife. But if I have to pick a few, they would be watches, cars and menswear. Watches for me is all about the history that either follow them or we give to them – therefore almost all my watches have a special story attached to them. Watches that represent my kids, a Monaco that has a very strong history with my father, A Lasale purchased by my grandfather for my father in Osaka Airport in the 80’s.

Cars – have always been a big part of my life. I deal with them on a daily basis, so it also becomes an everyday thing. But the heart still starts pumping for “the right” cars… And for me those are mostly Italian.

Menswear – is your uniform that you put on every day, and to me that is a very important thing – how you appear to the world and people around you. That’s how I curate that.

Tell us what can never miss in your liquor cabinet?

Tough one. That is a subject that has “grown” on me within that latest couple of years – the home bar. But as for right now, it is probably a bottle of Campari.
That’s my sweet spot!
